The State of Wisconsin explores the history, traditions, policies, places, and people that helped create Wisconsin’s distinctive culture, and why, generations later, it remains such a celebrated part of the state’s identity.
Along the way, the film looks beyond Wisconsin’s reputation for drinking to ask something bigger: Why has this culture endured? What does it mean to the people who live here? And what does it reveal about what Wisconsin values?
ABOUT THE FILMMAKER
Joel Sacramento is an award-winning filmmaker, cinematographer, and founder of Meter Studio. A lifelong Midwesterner, his work spans commercials, travel shows, social-issue documentaries, and animation.
His recent short film Awakening Wanda won Best Regional Film at the Beloit International Film Festival. He has also contributed to acclaimed feature documentaries including The Atomic States of America (Sundance) and Make Believe (LA Film Fest, internationally screened).
Joel is currently based in Dane County, Wisconsin.
